Yakut Knife

CA$225.00
sold out

This is a traditional yakut style knife, which is a tool used by the yakut people in Siberia. This knife was hand forged and ground, then polished to a mirror finish on the entirety of the blade. This is unique, as the blade is asymmetrically ground, one side is convex, or axe ground, and the other side is concave, or hollow ground. The hollow ground is then sharpened on a flat stone, this creates and edge that is both very sharp, and very tough. The hollow ground side is easier to sharpen than a traditional knife, since there is less material to remove along the entire side of the blade. The knife has a through tang construction, meaning the blade extends all the way to the pommel. The peened pommel and guard are made from polished brass, and the handle is stabilized box elder burl, with excellent figure and highlights. The epoxy stabilization makes the handle very tough and feel good in the hand. This knife comes with a traditional styled matching sheath, made from high-quality tooling leather, with a carved fish motif.
